The Cognita project is a new sixth form school building, breaking away from the main school only a 15 walk away. The intention is to give older students a space they can be proud of and autonomous in, preparing them for their next steps.
The modern style red brick building is within an old business park. It was constructed in 2015 and spans across 2 floors (total area 1,364 m2).
The lower level encompasses the main reception and cafe space, along with general classrooms, art room and innovation room.
The upper floor houses the science labs and additional classrooms, as well as the main study space. The atrium allows connection from the upper floor down to the reception space.
The planning strategy is based on clear and efficient circulation and active corridor spaces.
The aesthetic strategy is linked to the schools brand and physiology of colour.
As Design Director I lead the team and direct the client through the whole design process from initial concept and layouts through to technical drawings and construction. See the below links to examples of client engagement throughout the design process.
